Synopsis In the early 60’s Japan is recovering from the terrible sequels of war and Umi, a teenager, helps her mother look after their big family. At the same time she attends school and begins to discover love. Umi sends signals every day from an old mansion atop a hill over the Yokohama harbor with the hope of hearing from her father, lost at sea. A tug boat answers every day, and the answer is always negative, becoming a daily routine. One morning, when she least expects it, she will get a different answer and a trip of adventure and discovery will start for her. Based on a Manga created in the 80’s by Tetsurō Sayama and Chizuru Takahashi, the film is co-written by Hayao Miyazaki, director of "Princess Mononoke" or "Spirited Away".
Director bio Son to the animation director Hayao Miyazaki, Goro was born in Japan in 1967. He was reluctant to follow on his father’s footsteps. In 2006 Toshio Suzuki, studio produce, commissioned him with directing "Tales from the Earthsea", Goro’s first film.
