Synopsis In 1970, Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, The Band and Buddy Guy, among others, hopped on a train provided by Canadian National Railway, perfectly outfitted with beds and booze, and set off on a collective summer tour from Toronto to Calgary. Long-forgotten footage, now priceless: the bacchanalia on board the train, the jam sessions, the audience stampeding through the gates to protest what they felt to be an outrageous $14 ticket price. Jerry Garcia grabbing a microphone and pleading for "coolness”. The sickly Grateful Dead keyboard player died in 1973. Janis, a month after the end of the tour. It didn’t quite work out financially; as regards music, that’s a different story.
