Hong Sang-soo’s fifth film and the first to take part in Cannes Film Festival, which earned the Korean director the international recognition of his work. On a cold winter morning two friends meet after years apart. One has just returned from studying filmmaking in the USA, the other has married and is a university professor. Over lunch and with a few drinks they remember their student years and the memory of a woman comes back to life. A woman they both had a relationship with. Now she manages the bar of a nearby hotel and they decide to go see her… Some hours later the three spend the night at her place. To many, Woman Is the Future of Man, is one of Hong Sang-soo’s best films and the one that gave him international fame; to others it is also the most pessimistic and dark, the one where human misery and degradation are more present..
