Alexander Hacke (bass player for Einstürzende Neubauten) returns to Turkey after playing on the soundtrack of Head On. He stays in the same hotel as Cahit, the main character of the film, and travels through Istanbul, experiencing its fascinating music scene. His desire to capture the sounds of the city take us on an enriching musical tour that goes from the psychedelia of the Bosporus to the Turkish rock scene and its tireless granddaddy, Erkyn Koray, passing by Ceza’s politicized hip hop on the way. Nor does he overlook the veterans: the light pop songs and their divas, the gypsy music virtuosos from Head On, the popular songs revived by Brenna MacCrimmon, and Orhan Gencebay’s saz are also captured by Hacke’s microphones and Akin’s camera in this documentary style film.
