This description of the activity of a small rural village is of great ethnographical value. The film opts for sound and image editing in which dialogue takes a back seat in the portrayal of people, of animals, and even of plants. A shepherdess who minds her flock while she listens to music; the driver of the milk pick-up lorry; players of traditional rural games; women in their sewing circle; a band of folk singers who play at a wedding; and the recurring appearance of an old man with a chronic case of hiccoughs; these are but a few of the in a film not exempt of surprises in the form of dark sub-plots.
