Synopsis

The border conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan is both the backdrop and the catalyst for the situation in this film. A group of refugee peasants go on with their routine of breeding cattle and their clandestine community life under the never-wavering eye of an ox, who will lead us through a story of poverty, uprooting and hostilities. Nature, free from boundaries, and the viewpoint of an animal highlight the absurdity of the artificial borders and the cultural constructions of humans which are the seeds of the destruction and misery of whole populations. Once again, the veteran Armenian filmmaker Haratyun Khachatryan portrays the problems of post-Soviet Armenia.
