Synopsis

Ben is thirty-something and about to enter adulthood; married with a stable job, and about to have a baby. His routine is upset when Andrew, his old university buddy turns up unannounced. Andrew is an artist and continues to live a bohemian life, travelling all over the world. Ben does not want to admit to Andrew that he has settled down, so during the course of a drinking binge, he accepts a dare: the two friends will participate together in an amateur porn film competition. Of course, participating together means acting together, and the only way to do it is to have sex together. By accepting this dare, they push the limits of their friendship and their sexual flexibility: how to have sex with a friend and still be heterosexual.

Director bio

After several years of acting for the stage in Seattle and New York, Lynn Shelton attended the MFA Program for Photography at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. She then spent a decade as an experimental and documentary filmmaker and as an editor before writing and directing her first feature-length film. The result, We go way back, premiered at Slamdance 2006 where it picked up the Grand Jury Award for Best Narrative Feature and the Kodak Vision Award for Best Cinematography. Shelton’s second feature My Effortless Brilliance, premiered in competition at SXSW 2008 and won Shelton a nomination for the 2009 independent Spirit “Someone to Watch” Award. Humpday is Shelton’s third feature.
