Synopsis It is not Pop Idol, it is not Fame or Strictly Come Dancing, because this artistic experiment channels the fury, the noise and the displacement of a group of New York teens through hip hop music. No soapy crooners or stiff dancers will come out of this. It is more about finding a handful of musicians with their own personal voices, full of street savvy and used to keeping bad companies, as well as talented, quick thinking and fresh when it comes to improvising verses and building rhythms.
Director bio Matt Ruskin studied film production at New York University's Tisch School of Arts where he graduated in 2002 as a University Honors Scholar. During this time, he worked with mentor Darren Aronofsky in the production of Requiem for a Dream. While studying under renowned documentary filmmaker George Stoney, he produced and directed The Glen of the Downs. Immediately after graduating from NYU, Matt Ruskin signed on to direct The Hip Hop Project and has been working on this film exclusively for five years.
