Synopsis The Romanian rubbish dumps, the underworld of debris where the waste of human consumption ends up, and the ruins around Chernobyl, a living hell to remind us about the horrors brought about by tampering with the atom; such are the places where a pudgy Swedish man with a woman inside him enjoys cavorting. He sometimes releases his inner woman and those metamorphoses are accompanied by a senseless voice chanting mantras about demons impossible to satisfy, clashes, desperation and freedom. The Asian girl he sometimes carries on his back might be the daughter he will never give birth to, or the ideal woman he wants to be, or a hallucination.
Director bio Born in Malmö in 1969, he studied at the Swedish film school, Dramatiska Institutet, in Stockholm. At the age of 17 he started his career as a writer publishing a collection of poems, followed by a short novel. His first feature film, Fucking Amäl, achieved great critical and commercial success. His second feature Together, was the big winner at the 38th edition of Gijón Film Festival, just as his next film, Lilya 4-ever, would be in the 2002 edition, receiving the Grand Prix to the Best Feature by the International and Young Juries, and the Best Actress award. After the controverted A Hole in my Heart (2004), Container is his latest work.
