FICX INDUSTRY DAYS 2019

18 al 21 november


In its third edition, the FICX Industry Days programme presents a series of activities for film professionals that include informative sessions on financial aids for audiovisual production supported by the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA); initiatives to promote young European talents, such as Future Frames (EFP), as well as the presentation of La Incubadora by The Screen, a programme focused on the development of film features; panel discussions on premiere policies, programming and collaboration models among international festivals; a new edition of the PUSH Play Work-in-progress, where various projects in the development phase will be presented, competing for prizes in post-production services (in collaboration with DELUXE Spain and ECAM); talks by MEDIA Office Spain and Latido Films on internationalisation mechanisms and sales agencies; a workshop by INCAA through which we will get to know different strategies and tools aimed at building audiences; and sessions where we will be able to talk about Asturian cinema and the regional film industry.


The FICX Industry Days Badge is free of charge and gives access to all the activities within the Industry programme, from Monday 18 to Thursday 21 November at Gijon International Film Festival. The capacity of the activities is limited. For that reason, the organization of the FICX Industry Days reserves the right to grant the badges.

MONDAY 18 NOVEMBER


10:00h | PANEL DISCUSSION: Premieres policies and further circulation of films in the festival circuit

In this session, the speakers will debate about how the choice of the premiere can affect the subsequent visibility and circulation of a film, with particular attention to the works of young authors and new talents, as well as the impact of non-traditional forms of distribution.

In the European film industry, there are several mechanisms of internationalisation. In two consecutive talks, first Christian Solanas will talk about the approach of the Creative Europe MEDIA programme, its goals and perspectives for the future, the importance of internationalisation in the programme, and how to use of it as a working tool. Fabrizia Palazzo, from Latido Films, will then speak about her vision of the present and future market, about practical advice when working with sales agents, and the right time to close an international sales deal.

In this informative session, presided by Beatriz Navas and Silvia Anoro, we will learn about the various financial aids from the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), their different modalities and requirements, as well as tips on how to present a feasible project.

11:15h | PRESENTATION: La Incubadora

La Incubadora is a feature film development programme promoted by ECAM, aimed at emerging producers, screenwriters, and filmmakers from Spain, that provides mentoring, individual counseling, workshops, and funding for five projects with international potential.
This initiative has the collaboration of festivals and various entities such as TIFF Filmmaker Lab (TIFF), Rotterdam Lab (IFFR), Torino Film Lab Meeting Event, EAVE (European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs), as well as its new agreement with Focus CoPro', promoted by the Short Film Corner (Cannes Court Métrage). La Incubadora is also supported by Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) through its Programme for the Internationalisation of Spanish Culture (PICE) in the modality of Visitors.

An international jury will award the following prizes: DCP DELUXE Work-in-Progress, consisting on a DCP Mastering worth 6.000€, and the OpenECAM Work-in-Progress award, which provides the chance to use all the sets, studios and equipment available at ECAM for 18 months following the FICX’s closing date for the post-production of the awarded project.

10:00h | PANEL DISCUSSION: Connections and networks. Collaboration models among film festivals

Representatives from various international film festivals will talk about collaboration models the possibilities available to these events of working together in a network to maximise their resources and the dissemination of their contents, as well as their relationship with filmmakers and the public, with particular attention to the festivals specialised in short films.

11:15h | WORKSHOP: Use of public tools to generate new audiences. CINE.AR as a case study

The new audiovisual consumption models and technological convergence are today shaping the agendas of screens worldwide. In this session, Agustina Lumi (INCAA) will explain how to reach audiences by articulating programming tools that also help to prolong the circulation of audiovisual content, presenting keys and cross-channel strategies to build bridges between content and audience.

Informative session on °efp’s (European Film Promotion) short film programme Future Frames for film school graduates. Future Frames was launched in 2015 at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, paving the way for European film graduates to the international film business, introducing young talent to key elements of a successful film festival participation: press work, Q&As, meetings with festival programmers, world sales agents, producers, film funds...

In this talk, filmmaker and producer Ramón Lluís Bande will undertake a chronological approximation to the New Asturian Cinema, from its origins at the beginning of the century to the present day, through its most representative titles (and filmmakers), with the aim of trying to define its main characteristics, both formal and thematic.

The Industry and Press Corner is open for the Festival guests, badge-holders and professionals and Press. It is a meeting point perfectly equipped to host interviews and one-to-one meetings. This space has WiFi connection.
Open during the 57th FICX from 16 to 23 November (10:00 to 14:00h, and 16:00 to 19:30h), except on Sunday 17 and Saturday 23 November, dates in which the Corner will remain open only during the morning from 10:00 to 14:00h.
