10:15h - Case Study: Marrowbone (BADGE HOLDERS + AUDIENCE)
In this case we will talk about co-producing with televisions (Telecinco), the project’s origin, the script’s first versions, the writing process, the first contact with the casting, the inner workings of financing -public grants and private capital- and the support from public institutions, such as the Film Commission of the Principality of Asturias.

11:00h - Case Study: Summer 1993 (BADGE HOLDERS + AUDIENCE)
In this case we will discuss all the stages of development, production and exhibition of the film that has been chosen as Spanish entry for the Oscars. We will talk about the project’s presentation – on an early stage – within the Script Lab of the SGAE Foundation and its pitching at the Holland Film Meeting Co-Production Platform. We will also find out more about the first contacts with international sales agencies, the design of the Festival Strategy (World Premiere in Berlinale including the Award to the Best First Film, Spanish Premiere at Málaga – including the Best Film Award, as well as the circulation through more than 20 other film events). Furthermore, we will discuss the commercial release and future distribution on VoD platforms.

10:30h –Presentation: Laboral Cinemateca Film Commission (BADGE HOLDERS ONLY)
In this presentation we will talk about the Film Commission supported projects up to the date, as well as current actions such as filming permit management for productions shot in our region, distribution support to Asturian short films (Laboral Cinemateca Cortos initiave), upcoming calls for non-fiction film project financing, film promotion within the Principality of Asturias and policies & plans of the institution for 2018.

11:00h – Presentation: Asturian films at Gijon International Film Festival 2017 (BADGE HOLDERS ONLY)
Filmmakers and producers of the Asturian films in our 2017 programme will talk about their works. This presentation will be completed with the screening of a brief showreel including images of the selected films.

12:00h –Presentation: FORTA’s External Production Commission (BADGE HOLDERS ONLY)
Representatives of the External Production Departments of Spanish regional televisions will talk about their broadcasting rights acquisition policies for films, TV-series and mini-series.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 23

13:00h - Pitching Session: 5th Script Lab by SGAE Foundation (BADGE HOLDERS ONLY)
Location: Sala de Conferencias – Centro de Cultura Antiguo Instituto
The SGAE Foundation aims to contribute to making authorship, and thus the entity’s author members, experiment positive changes in the conditions that are taking place, facilitating their development in the culture sector and the cultural industries as well as the contact with the public and society beyond our borders. Regarding this, and as part of its laboratories for project development initiative, the fifth edition of this Script Lab has resulted in six works that will be presented in a pitching session at FICX by their authors.

17:00h – ALMA Screenwriters Union panel discussion: Screenplay in fiction, non-fiction and from a teaching perspective (BADGE HOLDERS + AUDIENCE)
Location: CICA (Centro de Interpretación del Cine en Asturias)

A look at today’s screenwriter’s role and the key aspects in writing for fiction and non-fiction works as well as from a teaching point of view when it comes to new talents and professionals. This discussion is organized in collaboration with ALMA, a Spanish screenwriters union, which in 2017 joined has joined the Festival’s family of partners by sponsoring the Best Spanish Script Award.

• Enrique Rivero (screenwriter and director, winner of the Golden Leopard at Locarno International Film Festival – Best Spanish Film Jury Member at Gijon 2017)
• Gerard Ortín, director of the film Perrolobo (Lycisca) – premiered in Gijon’s 2017 section LLendes.

Location: Centro de Cultura Antiguo Instituto – 1ª Planta
The Festival opens a new space for guests, accredited professionals; FICX Industry Days badge holders and Press delegates that can be used as a meeting point for interviews and one-to-one meetings. It will be fitted with adequate furniture and a proper Internet connection.

Opening times, daily November 17 to 25, 10:00 to 14:30h and 16:00 to 20:00h.
