Film migration, presentation of the book "Con maletas de cartón"
Con maletas de cartón, by Chema Castiello
"Migratory movements are the big topic of our time". Said by the historian Rubén Vega during the presentation of Con maletas de cartón, Chema Castiello's book which was presented at the Centro de Interpretación del Cine de Asturias (CICA), sponsored by Ateneo Obrero de GIjón and with the presence of Luis Pascual.
The volume, as explained by its author, is a study about Spanish migration in its four phases: emigration to America, at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th; the exile after the Civil War; migration from the country to the cities, and the migration to Europe in the 60s.
Vega explained that, in the book, "Chema makes an important systematizing of the topic", and valued that "even the most shabby films give us valuable instruments for historical analysis". "After all, cinema allows a reconstruction of life in a certain period", he concluded.
In turn, Castiello explained that Con maletas de cartón is the fruit "of a labour of investigation that took me a few years". Then he spoke at lenght about a work which analyses titles such as Llegar a más, Camino a casa or Vente a Alemania, Pepe.
