- THE DIRECTOR, ACTRESS AND SCREENWRITER AND A FLAGSHIP OF THE NEW FRENCH CINEMA, WILL PRESENT IN GIJÓN THE FIRST FOCUS ON HER WORK IN SPAIN.
The Gijón/Xixón International Film Festival will continue bringing to the audience the work of authors whose works had hitherto remained unreleased in Spain. In this sense, next November, French filmmaker Axelle Ropert, one of the most outstanding new voices of contemporary French cinema will be honored in our town, thanks to a focus that will review her work up to the present.

Axelle Ropert (Paris, 1972) began her career as a film critic in such prestigious media as La lettre de cinéma and Les inrockuptibles, two of the most important magazines for cinematographic analysis of the neighbouring country. Her work has subsequently been channelled towards screenwriting and acting, fields in which he has worked on several occasions together with her usual collaborator and colleague, Serge Bozon, standing out in films such as La France (2007) winner of the Jean Vigo Prize and which participated in the Official Section of FICX 2007.

Moreover, such important directors as Eugène Green and Paul Vecchiali, well known to FICX audiences, have cast her in Le pont des arts and C'est l'amour respectively. An interpretative career that shows the versatility of the Parisian artist.

However, it is her work as a director that will be brought under the focus at the FICX. Ropert will arrive in Gijón to present three feature films that remain unreleased commercially in Spain, These are the following:

- The Wolberg Family (2009). This film opened worldwide at the Cannes Film Festival as part of the Directors' Fortnight and could also be seen in Gijón in the Rellumes Section of the FICX that same year. In her debut feature, the resources that will form her personal seal as a filmmaker become apparent: a tone halfway between drama and comedy, a very elaborate formal care in each of the scenes and the relevance of her magnificent scripts that give a glimpse of her previous work as a scriptwriter.

- Miss and the Doctors (2013). Once again, family conflicts, in this case those involving two brothers who struggle to win the love of a woman who comes to the clinic they both run, become the backbone on which Ropert's story is structured. A story full of charm that takes us back to the best indie cinema of the 90's, to Hal Hartley of Trust and Simple Men, so valued by the FICX filmgoers. Best New Director of the Vancouver Film Festival.

- The Apple of my Eye (2016) With this film, Ropert added her first participation in the Official Section of the Locarno Festival. Halfway between the customary and moral comedy of her revered Eric Rohmer and the absurd cinema of the classic screwball, the French director brings her personal touch to turn her last film into a delicious work.

These features will be introduced by the director herself, who will be present in Gijón to discuss them with the audience at different meetings, the dates of which will be known in future communications and which are held thanks to the support of the Office of Equality Policies of the City Council of Gijón/Xixón.
