Seven Asturian titles can be enjoyed during the 24th edition of the French festival, which will take place from 4 to 13 October 2019
Gijón/Xixón International Film Festival is collaborating in the cycle dedicated to contemporary Asturian cinema that Toulouse's Cinespaña Festival will include next October as part of the programme for its 24th edition, and which will also have the support of the Radiotelevisión del Principado de Asturias (RTPA).

After dedicating two seasons to Catalan cinema and Novo Cinema Galego in 2017 and 2018 respectively, the French competition will include this year a section devoted to audiovisual works produced in Asturias and/or made by Asturian filmmakers.

The selection is composed of seven pieces under the title "Memory, militancy and exile: An approach to recent Asturian cinema", the exhibition is constructed from two idiosyncratic aspects essential to (re)define the identity of Asturias today: The need to manage the socio-economic and ideological legacy of the workers' movement that flourished during its industrial development, and the situation of those who, due to repression and/or lack of vital horizons, leave their homeland.

The selection is made up of the following titles: Cantares de una revolución (Ramón Lluís Bande, 2019); El pasado presente (Tito Montero, 2018) -produced by RTPA; La plomada (Luis Argeo and James D.). Fernández, 2017); ReMine, el último movimiento obrero (Marcos M. Merino, 2014); and a program with three short films by Elisa Cepedal: La playa (2010); Ay Pena (2011); and El desastre, tristes presentimientos de lo que ha de acontecer (2014).

The collaboration with the Toulouse Film Festival is part of the professional network recently established by FICX with several international competitions, such as the San Sebastian Film Festival, Porto/Post/Doc, Tampere (Finland), ZineBi or the Las Palmas International Film Festival, among others.
