Music will be the main topic in Radio 3 presenta…, the new film series within FICX 56, organised in collaboration with RNE radio station. It includes four music documentaries selected by journalists of RNE that offer a peculiar vision of jazz, heavy metal, rock and flamenco.

The films will be presented byimportant names in Radio 3: Javier Tolentino, film journalist and director of the programme ‘El séptimo vicio’; Benito Pinilla, content coordinator in ‘El séptimo vicio’; José Manuel Sebastián, deputy director of ‘Los conciertos de Radio 3’ and part of the team behind ‘Hoy empieza todo’; and Carlos Galilea, founder and director of ‘Cuando los elefantes sueñan con la música’.

These are the films withinRadio 3 presenta…:

Michel Petrucciani (Michael Radford, 2011). French musician Michel Petruccianimanaged, despite his serious bone disease, to become an excellent jazz pianist and play with some of his idols. Radford presents in this documentary a story of self-improvement of a great little man who, having everything against him, managed to reach his goals. This film will be presented by Carlos Galilea.

Anvil! The story of Anvil (Sacha Gervasi, 2008). Anvil is the name of a Canadian heavy metal band formed in 1978. Despite being admired by many famous names of the profession, they never managed to achieve a massive success, which has not prevented them from being active during all these years. The documentary, which won more than twenty awards at international festivals, recovers the history of this forgotten band and approaches the current daily life of two of its members: Steve "Lips" Kudlow (guitarist) and Robb Reiner (drummer). This film will be presented by José Manuel Sebastián.

Gimme Danger (Jim Jarmusch, 2016). The American director dares to review the history of one of the most outstanding rock bands of all time, The Stooges. It took eight years to finish 'Gimme Danger', since Iggy asked Jarmush to make this film in 2008. “This documentary is a declaration of love for dissent; not to give in to corrupt artists, bands and record labels that run the industry turning their backs on music and freedom”, says Javier Tolentino, who will present this film.

Omega (José Sánchez-Montes, Gervasio Iglesias, 2016). Lorca's poetry, the harsh notes of Leonard Cohen, flamenco blood and electric guitars were masterfully combined in ‘Omega’. This album, released in 1996, was written by Enrique Morente and Lagartija Nick rock band, and meant an utter revolution in flamenco. The homonymous documentary narrates how the album —considered a Spanish masterpiece by the critics— was made. It will be presented by Benito Pinilla.
