FICX 56 receives support from the European MEDIA programme

The European Union acknowledges Gijón/Xixón International Film Festival for its capacity to attract wide audiences, not only during the festival but also in its usual activities (FICXPlus).

This year, Gijón/Xixón International Film Festival will receive European Union support through its programme “MEDIA”, within the “Creative Europe” framework. This grant, the most important one for film festivals at continental level, accounts principles of distribution of high-quality films and development of media literacy programmes.
This year, Xixón International Film Festival receives recognition from the European Union for its management and programme, and recovers the financial support that had previously received between 1997 and 2013. Only 31 out of 77 projects submitted to the latest call have been selected, and FICX has been one of the international festivals with the highest rating.
European Commission highlights FICX’s great offer for young audiences within its section Enfants Terribles, with more than 14,000 students attending the screenings; and also the width of FICX’s total audience, more than 82,000 people attending its different activities.
Moreover, the European Commission outlines the bunch of activities and collaborations developed throughout the year (FICXPlus), the international network established with other festivals (for example, Crossroads in collaboration with San Sebastian Film Festival), the efficiency in the distribution of selected films, and the experience and strength of FICX staff and Divertia S.A.
