Gijón/Xixón International Film Festival is expanding its yearly programme with FICX Plus

FICX Plus is Gijón/Xixón International Film Festival’s new label which will feature screenings, series, special programmes, meetings with film makers, conferences and workshops after January 2018.
  • More cinema throughout the year. FICX Plus includes screenings, series, special programmes, meetings with film makers, conferences and workshops.
  • IFFR Live. On January 27th and 28th the FICX will participate in the third edition of “live cinema” IFFR Live in collaboration with the prestigious International Film Festival Rotterdam.
  • Weekly screenings ( Ciclos V.O.S.). Pumarín Gijón-Sur Municipal centre will host five well-known titles, like The Square, a multiaward film by Swedish director Ruben Astlund; Closeness, revelation film from Cannes 2017, or Spanish productions like Muchos hijos, un mono y un castillo (Gustavo Salmerón) and Niñato (Adrián Orr).

With this initiative FICX is expanding its regular programming with this initiative so the Festival’s work is available during the whole year, offering spectators the opportunity to enjoy the most surprising and recent cinema from the international and European scene.
The first great eventin the activities programme will take place on January 27th and 28th at the Pumarín Gijón-Sur Municipal centre with three titles from the third edition of the IFFR Live. Thus, FICX is joining this “live cinema” project backed by the prestigious International Film Festival Rotterdam, consisting in simultaneous screenings in more than 45 cities from 17 countries followed by the live transmission – in the cinema screen- of a meeting with the films’ directors.

Gijón/Xixón presents three titles from the IFFR Live programme in 2018, all of them made by female directors. On Saturday 27th there will be a double session: at 15:50 the international premiere of Amateurs by Swedish filmmaker Gabriela Pichler, which opened the Goteborg International Film Festival 2018, and at 19:50 Blue My Mindby Lisa Brahlmann. On Sunday 28th at 18:50 we will connect again with Rotterdam to enjoy the world premiere of Nina, the debut feature of Olga Chajdas. After the screenings, the spectators will be able to interact with the directors asking them questions in Twitter with the hashtag #livecinema.

The screenings belonging to Ciclo V.O.S., organized by the Festival, will also be incorporated to FICX Plus regular programme. You were never really here(Lynne Ramsay), inaugurated the Ciclo on January 13th with 295 spectators, and it will be joined by other titles like Muchos hijos, un mono y un castillo by Gustavo Salmerón (January 20th), the Swedish The Square by Ruben Astlund (February 3rd)- EFA Award for Best European Film 2017-, Closeness by Kantemir Balagov (February 17th) and Niñato by Adrián Orr ( February 24th).
