The 55th FICX is centered on the intimate and delicate director Carla Simón, with a double programme where we can watch her debut feature Summer 1993, one of three finalists to represent Spain at the Academy Awards (the Oscars), as well as a selection of her other works.

This focus will give the audience the chance to discover the evolution of the director's personal style starting with the directing exercises from the London Film School and the University of California, some of them never before presented at film festivals, like Home (2012) and Stranger (2011). The short films programme includes titles like Lipstick (2013) and Those little things (2015), her graduating work at LFS, as well as Llacunes (2016), works that have had a bigger trajectory and have been the first steps to create a distinctive style that Carla Simón shows in her first feature film Summer 1993.
Thanks to Summer 1993, Simón has acquired many awards from different international film festivals like Berlinale (Best Debut Film, Best Film Generation Kplus), BAFICI (Best Director), Málaga (Golden Biznaga), Istambul and Odessa. Moreover, the feature film is one of the Spanish productions prenominated to the European Film Awards (EFA).
The focus dedicated to Carla Simón encompasses all the film series and tributes that the 55th FICX will dedicate to the directing women of different generations, and is part of the collaboration between the Festival and the Mujeres de Cine (Cinema Women) association.
