Films may be submitted from this date and until September 20th. 2017, except for the Enfants Terribles Section, for which the deadline is August 25th. 2017
The 55th Gijón International Film Festival will be held November 17-25, 2017. Film submissions are now accepted following the regulations published in this website, the link can be found at the bottom of the text.

Gijón will pay this year a special attention to Spanish Cinema, and thus has established a BEST SPANISH FILM PRIZE, a cross-section prize for which all films (co)produced in Spain or directed by a Spanish filmmaker are elegible under the condition of presenting their Spanish premiere in the Official Section, the Rellumes competition or the Llendes, Animaficx or Esbilla sections. All films included in these sections of the Festival – also of international production – and holding their Spanish premiere in Gijón, will be elegible for the GRAND AUDIENCE AWARD which will be voted by the public.

The Festival will also present a new section for its 55th edition: the CINETECA FICX. This programme, co-produced by the Festival and Laboral Cineteca, will include a selection of modern classics, historical cinema jewels and/or documentaries about filmmaking, as well as presentations and events with special guests.

The INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION RELLUMES will be also renewed this year, opening a space for emerging filmmakers, fostering daring audiovisual proposals which, despite their interest and cinematographic value, haven’t found a place of outreach in Spain. RELLUMES will include documentaries and non-fiction but in any case, works that open new ways of communication as a defining label, as well as first and second films of up-and-coming talents who may find their perfect niche in this section.

The FICX aims to strengthen its Asturian roots by recovering in its 55th edition the denomination ESBILLA for a section in which the Festival will present a varied selection of the best films of the season, not necessarily being premiered in the contest of our event.

A separate call-for-entries – including the information about the awards - will be published for the local cinema section DÍA D’ASTURIES together with a specific set of regulations and application form that will be made available shortly in our website. Additionally, Laboral Cineteca will award the CINETECA SHORT FILM prize, consisting of the distribution of the winning short film at festivals and prominent audiovisual events, both national and international.

Given all these, Gijón officially calls national and international filmmakers to be part of this year’s Festival accordingly with the following deadlines for submissions:

- August 25th. 2017 for all films wishing to apply for the Enfants Terribles section

- September 20th. 2017 for all other sections except for Día D’Asturies (local competiton which is subject to a separate call)
