the patience stone
The French Afghan film The Patience Stone, by Atiq Rahimi, winner of three awards at Gijon International Film Festival has been purchased by Golem to be distributed in Spain.
The film, one of the big revelations at FICXixón 50th edition, won the award to the Best Actress thanks to the work of Iranian Golshifteh Farahani, together with the FIPRESCI from critics and that of the Young Jury. The film, based on the book of the same name, winner of the prestigious Goncourt waward in France, and co-written with Jean-Claude Carrière, tells us about the life of a young Afghan woman by means of a monologue with her husband, in a comatose state. Her words and everyday routine expose the difficult situation women find themselves in in this Asian country.

The opening film for Gijon International Film Festival (also winner of the Special Prize from the Jury), Beyond the Hills by Romanian director Cristian Mungiu will also reach the Spanish movie theatres. Its release date will be on January 18. The three Spanish films in the competitive Official Section, La venta del paraíso (Emilio R. Barrachina), Viaje a Surtsey (Miguel Ángel Pérez and Javier Asenjo) and 88 (Jordi Mollà), will also be distributed in our country, and that’s also the case of the American film Hello, I Must Be Going, by Todd Louiso.
