The Youth Jury is an old but solid tradition of Gijon Film Festival. During at least twenty years, around 2.220 boys and girls have been able to award movies internationally acclaimed such as Ari Folman's Waltz with Bashir; Juno by Jason Reitman; Together and Lilya 4-Ever by Lukas Moodyson; and shortfilms like El beso de la tierra from the asturian filmmaker Lucinda Torre, La primera vez by Borja Cobeaga and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's Esposados.
The Festival will be accepting applications starting on October 14th. Ten boys and girls between 17 and 25 years old will be chosen through cover letters in which they will expose their personal motivation to participate in the jury. The fortunate ones will have the opportunity to actively participate in the contest by chosing from the titles of the Official Selection the winners for Feature Film Youth Jury Cajastur Prize (15.000 euros) and Shortfilm Youth Jury Cajastur Award (6.000 euros)

Those that don't qualify for the Youth Jury will automatically participate in a raffle of a five movie pack edited by AVALON that includes titles such as A time for drunken horses by Bahman Ghobadi (Opening Screening at Gijon Film Festival in the year 2000, Caméra d'Or in Cannes), Benjamin Smoke by Jem Cohen y Peter Sillen; Dog Days (Hundstage) by Ulrich Seidl (Principality of Asturias Prize in 2001); the comedy Adam & Paul by Lenny Abrahamson (Best Actor Award in 2005) and the independent american production Old Joy by Kelly Reichardt.

All the participants in the selection process have to present a cover letter 150 words maximun or a video not longer than two minutes, in which they expose the reasons of their interest to join 48th Gijon Film Festival Youth Jury, along with the proper entry form, their Curriculum Vitae and a copy of ID in ".jpg" format. Documents should be delivered to the main office (Calle Cabrales, 82) or by mail to protocolo@gijonfilmfestival.com ".doc" or ".pdf" format for written applications and ".avi" or ".mpg4" for video.

A list of 48 FICXixón Youth Jury Official members will be published online www.gijonfilmfestival.com, and also in the Festival's Catalogue, although they will be notified personally. Deadline for applications on October 29th at 14:00 hrs.
