Eduardo Chapero-Jackson

Director and screenwriter

- eduardochaperojackson.jpgBorn in Madrid in 1971, Spanish father and American mother, he has lived long periods of time in both countries. He studied Fine Arts and Film Studies in New York and then he came back to Spain where he participated in several films. He worked as a associate producer in The Others by Alejandro Amenábar.
He also worked in other films like Sex and Lucia, Al sur de Granada, The Sea Inside and Crimen ferpecto. Specially recognised by his short films like Contracuerpo (2005), Alumbramiento (2007) (both released in the Official Section of Gijón International Film Festival) and The End (2008).He has won 150 awards in his career all over the world. Alumbramiento won the Golden Lion for the Best European Short Film in Venice 2007 and for the best Short Film in the 20th gala of the European Film Awards. In 2009 those films were released as a trilogy in Spanish Cinemas with the tittle A Contraluz. Verbo represents his start in feature films. With its premiere in San Sebastian International Film Festival, it is a contemporary fable about Sara, a teenager who lives in the outskirts of a city. She finds a series of messages and clues that invites her to enter into a new dimension. The film is starred by Alba Garcia, Miguel Angel Silvestre and Najwa Nimri.


Alberto Fuguet

Born in Santiago de Chile in 1964, he studied journalism in the University of Chile. In 1990 he published Sobredosis (Planeta), his first tales book. One of his more outstanding novels are Mala onda (Alfaguara 1991); Por favor, rebobinar (Alfaguara 1998); Tinta roja (Alfaguara 1996); Las películas de mi vida (Alfaguara 2003). His latest books are non-fiction novels like Missing: una investigación (Alfaguara 2009) and Aeropuertos (Alfaguara 2010). His woks have been translated into English, Finish, Italian, German, Danish, Korean and Portuguese. Apart from literature Alberto Fuguet has also directed several clips, the short film 2 Horas and three feature films; Se arrienda, Velódromo and Música campesina (screened in the 49th edition of the Gijón International Film Festival). Time/CNN has selected this multidisciplinary artist as one of the leaders of the XXI Century. Moreover, Newsweek magazine has dedicated its front-page to him as a exponent of the new Latin American literature. In the lasts years he has co-operated with the media like The New York Times Magazine, the cinema magazine El Amante, Soho, Time, Etiqueta Negra and Qué Pasa.


Fernando Lara

Journalist

- fernandolara.jpgThe journalist Fernando Lara was born in Madrid and he specialised very soon in Cinema Information. He develops his career in magazines like Nuestro Cine, Triunfo, Tiempo de Historia, La Calle and Guía del Ocio. Among his publications are 18 españoles de posguerra, 7 trabajos de base sobre el cine español and Miguel Mihura, en el infierno del cine. For two decades, until 2004, he was the director of the Valladolid International Week of Cinema. He was also the Spanish delegate of the International Film Festival in Berlin. He has been part of the jury in the International Festivals of Berlin, Cannes (Golden Camera), Karlovy- Vary, Brussels, Florence and Guadalajara (Mexico), as well as in different Spanish contests. From 2005 to 2009, he was the Director of General Institute of Cinematography and Audio-visual Arts. In 2007 he received the French distinction of knight of the order of Arts and Letters. Following with his journalist task, nowadays he co-operates with El Mundo and El Norte de Castilla, and the magazines Fotogramas, Cahiers du Cinema- Spain and the weekly Turia de Valencia.


Lola Mayo

Screenwriter of all Javier Rebollo's films , like La mujer sin piano ( Silver Shell to the Best Director in the San Sebastian International Film Festival of 2009), El preciso orden de las cosas and En camas separadas, films with a lot of national and international awards. Because of her work she has several nominations to the Goya Award and to the European Academy of Cinema. In 2006 she co-produced Lo que sé de Lola, whose script she is co-author of. The film, released in the Official section of San Sebastian Film Festival, was nominated to the Goya for the Best New Director. Moreover, she is a director and a screenwriter of documentary films for TVE and she has obtained, among others, the Reina Sofia Journalism Award. She also has the Angel Urrutia Poetry Award for her book Perfil del abordaje and the Clarin Award of the Spanish Writters Organization. In 2007 she was finalist of the Bruguera Award. In 2009 she writes the book La piel y la máscara: entrevistas con actores del cine español, published by Alcalá de Henares Film Festival. At the moment she is preparing the release of the 3rd feature film that she has written with Rebollo, El muerto y ser feliz, starring José Sacristán.



Mira Staleva

Assistant Manager of Sofia International Film Festival

- mirastaleva.jpgMira Staleva was born in the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv. After completing her studies of Teology and Psichology, she started her career linked to the world of cinematography, facet that she has always developed since then. She has been part of Sofia International Film Festival since its creation. Since 1997, more than 1600 films have been shown there. What started as a thematic musical festival has become, according to publications like Variety, one of the main European film festivals. Nowadays she is the Assistant Manager. She also directs the Sofia Meetings, focused on making it possible for young directors to get in contact with the different elements of the film industry (producers, distributors, festivals..). Staleva is a member of the jury of the Lux Parliament Awards.
