Synopsis

This satiric film is set in Rumania in the 1980’s, under the dictatorship of Ceausescu, as he tried to lead the country into the Golden Age referred to in the title. The film questions Ceausescu’s motives, presenting a series of humorous vignettes: a village waiting for a visit from an entourage of high standing officials of the regime, a visit which will never materialize; the president’s official photographer struggles to smooth over imperfections in the images he captures; a lorry driver who transports live animals is unable to reach his destination; the family of a police officer tries to adapt their lives to accommodate a new pet; a man and a woman dream up a wild plan to set up the business of their lives.
