Synopsis Appropriate Behavior makes us think of good behaviour rules; to proper behaviour as it would, but it actually deals with the processes (falling in love, breaking up, knowing oneself, overcoming one’s limits, acceptance…) that make us grow as human beings.
In her first film, Desiree Akhavan compensates the relative mistake of saving for herself the main role with a praise worthy work behind the cameras. Between Noah Baumbach and Ira Sachs, we find a young girl of Persian origin who tries to get over a relationship and who adds to the mix of nationalities she has yet another mix of two sexualities fate leads her to experiment with. Going from one time and emotional jump to the next, this is a movie filled with life, one hundred per cent new yorker, dynamic and witty. Pure indie, in a word: honest, authentic and unchained. Appropriate Behavior exudes veracity in the small scale it plays in. It overflows with life... and the result is big, almost huge.
