Synopsis This movie invokes absurdity and estrangement to –using a "B series" type of premise– make an incisive comment on the role of spectators and commercial cinema. A group of persons in the desert use binoculars to watch the movie from afar. The plot, a live tyre on the rampage, killing people who cross its way thanks to its psychic powers. Invoking all the clichés of a bloody terror road movie, throughout the length of Rubber we see roadside motels, violent deaths, police investigations and suspense, and even the inevitable erotic charge. On the other hand, we also see the behaviour and attitudes of the hordes of spectators passively bearing, with barely a complaint, the extreme situation to which this film subjects them.
