Albert Wilmarth is an anthropologist and folklorist, a professor at the Miskatonic University. His most recent research focuses on the alleged existence of some strange sea creatures that, according to old legends and to some random witness, lurk in the depths of the Vermont Mountains. Some mysterious pictures will lead him to unexpected horrors where science, magic and strange cults mix to take Wilmarth to a desperate fight not only for his life but also for his sanity and to unveil a secret that may change the world. Second and true Lovecraft adaptation carried out by the team led by Sean Branney and Andrew Leman, after the success of their medium length film “The Call of Chtulhu”. The latter was silent and in black and white, almost in a Guy Maddin style, and the former is still in splendid black and white with an archaeological style carefully recreating the atmosphere of the mythical classic horror films from the Universal, the RKO and other studios from the 40’s. A delicious cult piece for Lovecraft and movie Neo-primitivism lovers.
